At the October 1st, Council meeting, the municipality took another step forward in the process of overhauling its urban planning regulations.

We are now embarking on the first stage of the procedure to adopt 13 urban planning regulations.

Most citizens are more familiar with regulations related to the issuance of permits, such as zoning regulations (488-2025), subdivision regulations (489-2025), and building regulations (490-2025).

However, various other regulations also allow us to manage specific aspects of our territory, whether in terms of heritage (495-2025), building maintenance (499-2025), street construction (493-2025), demolition (498-2025) or more specific management of tourist residences (497-2025).

Finally, some regulations are administrative in nature, such as : the regulation on permit issuance conditions (491-2025), on permits and certificates (492-2025), minor exemptions (496-2025), developer agreements (494-2025) and the Urban Planning and Heritage Advisory Committee (500-2025).

In order to ensure compliance with the RCM’s new plan and certain guidelines in our new Urban Plan, but also to bring them up to date with current practices in urban planning and sustainable development, our regulations, many of which are 25 years old, needed to be thoroughly reviewed.

A public meeting will be held on Saturday, November 22nd, at 9 AM, at town Hall, where the regulations and their main highlights will be briefly presented. This is the final date on which comments can be collected that may lead to last-minute changes to any of the regulations before their final adoption in the coming weeks. But rest assured, a bylaw is still a document that can evolve over time and can be adjusted over the years if necessary.

The 13 bylaws are now available on the municipality’s website under the heading “Refonte : Règlements d’urbanisme : https://www.cantonstanstead.ca/legislation-et-reglements/reglements/
